I believe access to health care is a right not a privilege. Having assess to health care is so important today. I believe every individual should be able to receive adequate care in order to prevent health problems. So many Americans are without health insurance due to it being too costly or not offered through their employer. Even people who have health insurance still can't afford to see physicians or get their medicines due to the cost of co pays and deductibles, which in turn leads to many Americans not seeking care. I have 3 children and to have coverage for me and my children is very costly. It makes me wonder how people make it these days with health insurance premiums being so high. The economy is down right now and at this time it is so crucial to be able to give individuals the right to seek health care. I believe if everyone is given this opportunity we will see less hospitalizations and more people living a healthier life. It is hard to educate individuals on health issues when individuals can't seek health care, because I believe education starts in physician offices by doctors and nurses. It is imperative that all individuals are given this right.

  1. Melissa,
I can't agree with you more! The insurance cost for just my husband and I is costly. And now we will be adding a baby in the mix in the fall. You see what I see everyday in the health provider world. It can be very depressing to see people choose between food and their health. Great post!

  2. I also agree with your blog. Working in a public school setting, i am well aware how expensive insurance is for my family. The cost per month for us to have health insurance would be well over $650.00. This is even with the school district paying a portion of mine. Having the right to a healthy, happy life should be our right as Americans.

  3. The United States government has made provisions for the elderly and the poor by providing Medicaid and Medicare. However, most Americans fall in the middle of these groups. For a middle class family, the cost of health insurance may result in a huge dent in the family budget. Many other families that do not qualify for medical assistance may be forced to cut health insurance and gamble with the health of their family. Our founding fathers intended to guarantee every American the right to pursue happiness and health. How is this guarantee going to be granted to all Americans without a universal health care system?

  4. I agree that health care should be a right and not a privilege. It seems that the only thing stopping America from giving it's citizens the right to health care is money. That is not an acceptable reason to take away a citizens rights.
